In a cinematic performative way, LA LOTTA NON È FINITA demonstrates the practices that Italian difference feminism has developed since the late 1970s: six female friends practice consciousness-raising – “l’autocoscienza” – a process that attempts to establish a connection between the singularity of each individual woman and the shared network of relationships, employing a critically understood psychoanalysis. The montage moves between the home and the outside world and illustrates the dependence of the feminist movement on reality as opposed to theoretical abstractions, which historically have always been representations of a male subject. The film was screened at the 1973 Women’s Film Seminar. DONNA: VROUWEN IN VERZET asks about the possibility of a feminist genealogy and in doing so, mobilizes the method of oral history to inscribe women and marginalized groups in the history of the Left in Italy. The interviews from DONNA: VROUWEN IN VERZET also reveal that such processes of recognition can take place without the impetus of conflict, without ‘matricide’: it is necessary to try out a new relationship between the generations, one that distances itself from the idea of female authority and can produce a new provisional collective.
